1. Moneyball: Directed By Bennet Miller,Staring Brad Pitt,Jonah Hill and Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Definitely my favorite film of the year,A terrific uplifting tale in the style of David vs Goliath,The film features Brilliant Direction,Terrific writing from Oscar Winners Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zallian and some phenomenal performances,Brad Pitt gives the performance of a lifetime while Jonah Hill is awesome in a dramatic turn. It looks like this film wont get much recognition this awards which is a shame. In my view this film was a masterpiece.
2. 50/50: Directed By Jonathan Levine,Staring Joseph Gordon Levitt,Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick
The Dramaedy of the year, A beautiful and hilarious story of overcoming the odds.50/50 is a hilarious film while at the same time a dramatic tearjerker and it handles both elements perfectly. Joseph Gordon Levitt continues his run of great performances as he gives an Oscar worthy one here,The rest of the cast is also terrific especially Rogen and Kendrick.A terrific uplifting tale.
3. The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo: Directed By David Fincher,Starring Daniel Craig,Rooney Mara
Possibly my most anticipated film of the year,I was absolutley not Disapointed! This film was Phenomenal, David Fincher is my Favorite living Director and creates yet another masterpiece with Dragon Tattoo,Fincher brings his stylish Direction and adapts it brilliantly to Steig Larsson's beloved novel. The films centerpiece is the star making performance of Rooney Mara whom is amazing, Aswell as a good but very different performance from Daniel Craig.
4. Hugo: Directed By Martin Scorsese,Staring Asa Butterfield,Chloe Moretz and Sacha Baron Cohen
Martin Scorsese's beautiful love letter to the art form he adores so much.An amazing and spellbinding 3D Adventure from the greatest Filmmaker alive.A true work of art both artistically and story wise. Beautifully directed by Scorsese And a really strong performance from young Asa Butterfield as the title character.A truly unmissable film that will hopefully see Mr Scorsese win his second Best Director Oscar.
5. Melancholia: Directed By Lars Von Trier,Staring Kirsten Dunst,Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland
A beautiful and tragic drama from Lars Von Trier, As always Kirsten Dunst gives a powerhouse performance,She is well supported by others in the cast especially by Charlotte Gainsbourg .Lars Von Trier's film depicts helplessness of a human society in the face of a crisis and does it perfectly.A terrific Art house film with extraordinary cinematography.
6. Drive: Directed By Nicolas Winding Refn,Staring Ryan Gosling,Carey Mulligan and Bryan Cranston
It may be considered overrated but i really don't care,Drive is a fantastic film experience that meshes many genres and does it very successfully. Ryan Gosling is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors and here he gives arguably his best performance as a soft spoken man only known as "The Driver",The rest of the cast is also awesome, especially Albert Brooks who is phenomenal as the villain of the film. A great experience with a very dream like feel and a terrific score.
7. The Ides Of March: Directed By George Clooney,Staring Ryan Gosling,Paul Giamatti and Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Another Ryan Gosling film, this time he stars in George Clooney's politically charged thriller. And once again Gosling knocks it out of the park with another strong performance. George Clooney does a fine job with directing and handles the source material really well. A great film that asks hard hitting questions about the people who run our countries.
8. The Adventures Of Tintin: Directed By Steven Spielberg,Staring Jamie Bell,Daniel Craig and Andy Serkis
Steven Spielberg's animated adventure spectacular is arguably one of the very best uses of 3D i have ever seen. Brilliant storytelling and mystery is mixed with comedic moments and extraordinary performances. This is exactly what i think 3D should be used for,Depth and experience. A terrific experience that can be recommend for people of any age.
9. The Help: Directed By Tate Taylor,Staring Emma Stone,Viola Davis and Octavio Spencer
A depressing tale told beautifully,The Help is a truly remarkable film That will pull at your heartstrings as well as make you laugh. There are Terrific performances from everyone in the cast, especially Emma Stone,Jessica Chastain, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer,A truly beautiful film with a lot of heart.
10. The Descendants: Directed By Alexander Payne,Staring George Clooney, Shailene Woodley and Matthew Lillard
I wanted to love this so much more than i did,That's not to say that i didn't think it was good film thus it features in my top 10 of 2011.The film is directed by and the great Alexander Payne and stars George Clooney who gives one of his very best performances. The film is set amongst the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii and is very attractive looking film. I wanted more of an Emotional Impact but its still a good movie.
