Stars: Kurt Russell,Zoe Bell and Rosario Dawson
Quentin Tarantino's fifth film and his contribution to the 2007 Grindhouse feature. The film was paired alongside Rodriguez's "Planet Terror".Together the two films brought back the exploitation double feature back to theatres, even featuring Fictional for upcoming attractions, advertisements and in theatre announcements to give Grindhouse a realistic feel. Death Proof focuses on two separate of women who at different times are stalked by a sadistic Stuntman who uses his "Death Proof" car to execute his murderous plans. The film stars Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike, and he is absolutely brilliant, He is a slasher but instead of a knife he uses his muscle car.Russell provides a very threatening and intimidating villain all throughout but is also strangely likeable at the same time and the film is at its best when his on screen. The film also features brilliant car chases and a great homage to car films of the past such as "Vanishing Point" which is referenced throughout the second half of the film. I really disliked the second half of the film, compared to the awesome first half, the girls were terrible and i didn't care for any of them,i have seen Death Proof three times now and the endings really bugs me every time,i hate the fact that they kill stuntman Mike, i really like Russell's character and i would have loved an ending showing Russell's character get away and hint of him stalking another group of girls. Overall Death Proof is an okay film, with an amazing first half and in my opinion a much worse second half, definitely not in the league of Tarantino's other work.
